Dog Poo
One day in April, Nic Etherington came round to say she had seen an article in the Guardian about some people in Newcastle using poetry to combat crime, with some success. She suggested we try this out in our campaign against dog poo and that we contact John Hegley to see if he would donate the first poem.
So……we wrote to him and he very kindly wrote a poem for us. We then threw it open to the people of Hebden Bridge as a competition for the best poem with the proviso to keep it clean, keep it short, keep it witty.
So……we got loads of poems back in and the competition was duly judged with Nia (7) and Chiara (13) winning the fantastic prizes. We wrote back to John Hegley to say we were very sorry he had not won the competition but as he was in Hebden Bridge on 17th November, would he come and open the finished display. He said he would!
So…… Dick Booth at Rochdale Canal Trust kindly said we could have some old lock gates to make the signs with. Tony Arkell cut a suitable piece off with his chainsaw and Alan at Drew Forsyth said he would slice it up. Leigh from Solo design sanded them down and H and Susie made the signs up and installed them.
There is a booklet of the Poo Poems for sale at the Green Shop. Pooper scoopers are available at the ATC and the nearest bins are now on the canal side!
